The brightest/biggest one you can afford, and then two smaller ones. I would just pick up three Yongnuo panels. To be honest, half that budget is going to be taken up by light stands and batteries if you're using three lights. My budget currently is only around $200 (give or take), obviously I know this isn't enough for a super high quality kit but, as I mentioned, I'm putting the money together to get that but right now I have a few things I need to shoot and renting is now not really economically or practically feasible a lot of my stuff ends up being run and gun.įor $200 you're not going to get much that's good. I'm not really interested in tungsten bulb lights because, I mean, I've used things like redheads before and they've always ended up popping on me and, especially for long documentary-style interviews, I can't have the subjects getting too hot. There are a handful of lights I have in mind but they all look like cheap 120d knockoffs that'll fall apart the moment I take them out of the case.
